I’ve done it. Here’s my thoughts. The first time I did it, it worked. But, the minute I got off it, I gained my weight back. This time around, when I joined Buddyslim, I found out real quick I was a refined carb and sugar ADDICT, so I decided to do just the first two weeks (Phase I) of South Beach because I knew it would get my sugar and carb cravings under control and kick start my metabolism. However, Phase I is THE hardest part and CAN make you feel tired because it is so restrictive. I knew what to expect though, and knew I could do it. After Phase I, I just started a healthy eating plan, learning from people here, and kinda staying with Phase 3 of South Beach, but not limiting myself. I didn’t want to “diet” any more. I wanted a healthier eating for LIFE, which is what I’m learning and doing. So, as far as South Beach, there are pros and cons. You simply CANNOT cheat or it will not work. I highly recommend you borrow or buy the book and read it thoroughly. I have it and practically have it memorized, so if you want mine, lemme know and I will be happy to mail it to you.

    Huggggggggggs,

Hi. I have done the southbeach diet off and on for almost 4 years. Only the past year did I really get serious about it….

I have to disagree with the above comment about the cheating. I ALWAYS took a day off from the “diet”. (I hate that word) In my opinion, it is very forgiving. Not to say that you can cheat all the time on it and still lose weight. I guess we all have to just find what works for us. Some things may work for one person and not another. Trial and error!
I had to find a way to make the diet work for me so I stayed on phase 1 Mon-Sat and took Sunday off from it. I ate whatever I wanted to eat on Sunday and then right back to phase 1 the other days. It worked for me. I lost over 50 lbs doing that. In the beginning, I was strict with it and didn’t cheat at all for 6 weeks. I just could not keep up that way. I missed my other food too. I don’t really look at this eating plan as a diet because it really does teach you how to eat in a healthy manner. I wish you the best with it and feel free to email about it anytime! Have a good one!

I don’t do South Beach, but a similar low carb diet! The basic is this: Stick with the phase one and you will do great! If you must cheat incorporate some low carb fruit or snacks no cake, icecream etc. Phase 1 is by far the hardest but if you stick with it you will see amazing results!!!! All the best to you!
